A spent Patron bottle

A spent Patron bottle.

He woke to the chill of four A.M. He’d slept in his car, convertible top down. After five minutes, the windshield cleared of its dew. He drove home.

Seven inches tall, five inches wide. Height exceeds breadth.

The oriental fan is colorful and ornate. He sees the red dragon as orange. All of his visions are orange. His hopes and dreams, melding, intermingling, crying out, for orange. A memory flashes. A rainbow over a field of soybeans. A rainbow caused by the irrigation apparatus. A “farmbow.” Too many colors on a bright day.

A bag of mustard seeds. A fount of limitless faith.

Many afternoons. He remembers. Walks on the beach. Looking for heart-shaped stones. Searching for scraps of sea glass. Searching for answers. Seeking rainbows. Red orange yellow blue indigo violet. Seeking solace. And then, he woke. Act three, scene one.

Laid flat, the bag is 20% full of seeds. Held upright, 10% full. Breadth exceeds height when standing.

The first night, she’d left an earring behind. The second night, two earrings. She never returned to claim them. She’s moving to Colorado.

Words on the page are obscured behind the rough, spent Patron bottle.Through the smooth shard of sea glass as well. But least through the ridge. In the corner is clarity. In glass and in life. The ridge is twice as wide as the surrounding glass, where it rises to its peak. The bottle has a slight greenish tint. Green is red’s complement. Time has cleared its contents. No longer is the scent discernible.

A week later, he drove his car into a ditch. 2:30 A.M. By three A.M. he’d extricated the car and arrived home. At six A.M. he woke to go to the gym. Changing life. Height exceeds breadth. All colors lead to black. All thoughts fade to orange.

“Does every question need an answer?” This was the question he pondered. This was the answer he sought. He chuckled at the irony.

Doubt’s Redress

Shocking revelations
Queries forever unspoken
Wonders unaddressed
In the redress of yesterday’s today

Unforsaken platitudes
Unformed seeds of colored thoughts
Malformed impressions
Manifest on the untrodden path
Darkened by the lengthening shadows

Quiet epiphanies
Seeking the vacuum of quiet reflections
Ripples on the pond of eternity
Disturbing the unrealized moment
Of a thought disallowed
A dream disavowed
A quest abandoned
In the blinking moment
Of doubt

A Loving Husband’s Loving Prayer

Dear God, I pray…

Purify my eyes that I may see only beauty
When I look into the eyes of Your daughter
When I gaze into the heart of this precious gift
When my mind’s eye sees her sacred essence

Grant me the wisdom to see Your will in us
Grant me the courage to accept what I see
Grant me the power to move thoughts to actions
Allow me the infinite privilege of loving her

Strengthen me that I may strengthen her
Fill me with the perfect peace of Christ
Let me be a vessel and a catalyst and a stream
Of all the good and perfect gifts You promise

Take from me any unloving thoughts or urges
Replace them with a hunger to serve and cherish
Let them not be given time or space or nourishment
But remove any seeds of doubt or fear from the path

In and with the Christ within, I pray that Your light
Be a strong beacon, a constant guide, a bright lantern
Let the glory of our presence flood the path to You
Let us shine the sacred light that all creation longs for

As we rejoice and praise Your holy and forever presence
As we weep at the glorious perfection of Your sacred face
As we sing and dance with the angels that surround
This new union of One, from wife and husband and God

Fill us forever with the fervent desire to live and shine
Make us a new and divine cup of Your unspeakable mercy
Be in every instant that follows a constant presence
Inflame us in the passionate fire that is Your love

Create in us an ever-growing and ever-flowing thirst
Never quench, but always satisfy, our need to be in You
Take us - mind, body, soul, Spirit, essence, two, One, All
As we bow in grateful and humble prayer to You

We love You.

Amen

Darkness Dives, Lightness Dies

Dark, frozen ripples from the depth of the past
Seeds planted by a cruel and bitter lack of love
Finding the intersection of Hopeless and Fear
Resolve crumbles with the next uncried tear

Visited this place so many times before
But each time, effects are a bit more sure
Eroding the soul a heartache at a time
Dam will surely burst without aid from divine

But divinity seems such a far distant dream
God of the child murdered by the land
Innocence destroyed with the power of a hand
Father to son, pass the torch, kill the man
