One word, and then another…

One word.

And then another.

This is the cure for writers’ block.

But it’s a cure only for the symptoms.

The real solution is deeper. Much deeper.

Good writing flows from the heart; only an open heart flows.

The solution then, the cure, is to open the heart, to free the heart, to create the connection from heart to mind, to free the muse, to invite her perfect song.

We’ve got to dig deep, to surrender, to seek and allow ourselves to heal and to grow. The difference between inspired writing and common drivel is an open heart.

Since I Met You

Here’s what I ought do:
Respond to my emails
Rewrite my latest novel
Enter my expenses into QuickBooks
Wash my car
Go to the gym
Write some custom code
Make a few dollars

But, since we talked,
Here’s what I want to do:

Dance in the sunshine
As the clouds part, make way
Write you a fresh poem
Today and every day

Imagine two cups of coffee
Separating us
In a Starbucks in the northwest
While learning
Each color of your eyes

Traveling to the old country
Rome, Paris, Sicily
Tipping the gondolier
As we disembark
Holding hands
In Venice

My mind wanders
My heart flutters
And all that seemed to matter yesterday
Matters not today

Your brave finesse
Your perfect beauty
Your kind heart
Has changed me
Has moved me
To a new understanding
To a new path

Simple Sight

Only in fear does truth evade
Only in darkness do I not see
Love forgives and shows the way
Reveals your heart to me

a new journey

a journey of darkness
summoning the din
clinging to memories
bubbling within

the secrets of light
set down in the dream
blood flowing cold
ripping each seam

a time of great terror
the heart beats no more
a life once held high
it fell to the floor

yet, time marches on
the watch ever moves
great stones in the stream
forever, they’re smoothed

off in the distance
the turnstile of light
grows larger each step
an expansion of sight

as the entrance draws closer
a ticket, he finds
in a deep newfound place
as the journey unwinds

peace overtakes him
in simplicity, divine
as perfection returns
to a heart now resigned

the scales are no longer
that impeded his sight
as he left the old journey
and entered the light

Paint Your Dreams

Paint your dreams
Dive right in
Express your true heart
Grab the brush
Dip it in the colors
Life is your canvas
Create it, dream it, be it

Open to the majesty
Sleeping in your heart
Wake to the mysteries
See life anew

Step into your painting
Release the inhibitions
New worlds open
To the colors of your dreams

Paint your life
Find the dawning colors of love
You are the brush, the canvas, the vision
Wake to the wonders of you
