Faded Black Hope

From under the faded black door
Springs a faint light, a twinkling
Hope, I dare wonder
Could it be?

Purified in gross inequities
Dancing a slow dance with terrors
unbidden, unforgotten
Fright, my closest friend

The replays tempt persuasion
On an off-white wall of gloom
Forbidden but unforsaken
Those fiends, my only friends

To the door I turn with caution
Hesitant, unsure
A tale of an unwed maiden
Tapping upon the door

And yes, the light still trickles
From the threshold to places unseen
And then I see the movement
First within, the crack softly builds

A long blink
A quickening of sorrow
A whispered dare
The door opens
And all at once
The light
Unsure
Fills, floods, brave and demure
And life
Begins
New

Heartspeak

A crowded subway station
Trains arrive from every direction
Non-stops, locals, orange line, blue
Bombarded, overrun is the station

imageThe nightly news
Three people shot
A new strain of a new virus
Contention, disarray, discomfort
A world overrun with thoughts
Begging to be heard

A lifetime of sensations
Images, memories, scents, judgments
Write with squeaky chalk on the blackboard
Speak out of turn and in

All these voices clamor
Join on the crowded platform
The trains arrive, depart, arrive

But behind the veil of chaos’s call
Whispers the quiet child of the heart
The truest truth, the real and flowing beauty
Words of peace, and love

Forgotten Starbirth

A stark glance at starbirth
The haunting now replaced
In explosions of her music
Through the once forgotten place

The vivid red velvet
Of a redawning star
Once a time to remember
Forgotten still thus far

Born into wealth
Colliding within
Awakened refrains
Asleep in the din

Beginnings of nothing
New strawberry haze
Lost in her revolt
And lost in heaven’s gaze

Slim Beat

Choose a timid smile
Releasing hidden hopes
Sharing a heart’s slim beat
Grasp at love’s retreat

Dive into an instant
Where free-falling sorrows mete
The boundaries of today
Melding in the fray

Why not risk it all…
For the chance at even more?
Brave the song’s bright call
The words on tomorrow’s door

Lost in metered colors
Surrendered to the fall
Be the you that beckons
Hear the song’s bright call
