Heartspeak

A crowded subway station
Trains arrive from every direction
Non-stops, locals, orange line, blue
Bombarded, overrun is the station

imageThe nightly news
Three people shot
A new strain of a new virus
Contention, disarray, discomfort
A world overrun with thoughts
Begging to be heard

A lifetime of sensations
Images, memories, scents, judgments
Write with squeaky chalk on the blackboard
Speak out of turn and in

All these voices clamor
Join on the crowded platform
The trains arrive, depart, arrive

But behind the veil of chaos’s call
Whispers the quiet child of the heart
The truest truth, the real and flowing beauty
Words of peace, and love

Surrender

I surrender.

Where do I turn but to you?

Only you can fill this empty space that is all I now know.

Madness is on my only seen horizon.

Take me to that place I have forgotten.

Take me to the only place that heals.

Take me now to you.

Grant me the Grace

Grant me the grace
Of some hope, a light smile
Take from me this cross
That’s much too hard to bear

Father, please forgive me
My sins are all long past
Lead me to the light
Cleanse me in your love

My father walks with You now
Life taken by his hand
I feel so all alone
It’s hard to walk this life

Help me cry the tears
Touch me in grace
Prove to me my worth
Remove the cold chill dark

I beg You, I beseech You
Lift me from these chains
Let me hear You, know You, believe
Take the pain away

Amen

Rising Dawn

Wretched indecision
Dawning indiscretions
Wanting imprecisions
Lusting for the truth

Moments’ lost enchantments
Reaching for the knife
Clawing at the windowsill
Dreaming a dreamer’s life

Passion’s bubbling cauldron
Seeping blood’s fresh calm
Nothing else will still
This moment’s rising dawn

Pain

Pain is lasting
Memories unforgotten, relived, cherished, held
Visions of yesterday, last Tuesday, the brawl in the schoolyard
Forty years ago

Pain is forever
Thoughts cling to sensations, sensations to thoughts
Twin siblings, knowing intimately the shared songs
Of life

Pain is existence
Contrastor of goodness, of joy, of pleasure
Black waves crashing on the rocks
Each starless night

Pain is purveyor
Carrying the memories, the fears, the lessons
Her teachings, the sole way of persistence
Of thought, of perception, of life
