paradox

it’s a nicer street
than the one
where my home is.
most of the houses
have not only alarm systems,
but also video surveillance.
that doesn’t matter.

the keys
are utter fearlessness
and ruthless
abandon.

i’m no longer plagued
by the dangers
of curiosity,
nor impeded
by the intriguing ambiance
of these new
and menacing homes.

for me,
it’s about the raw and unimpeded thrill
of the fast
and bloody
kill. and the ashen deadness
left behind.

this is the pinnacle
of power.

this is life;
taking life
to feel life.
the ultimate rush.
the ultimate paradox.

Discretion

The muse is quiet
The winds move the leaves
A world set aright
In the haunting, black relief

Friends, cohorts, countrymen
A fiendish lot of fools
Arguments wandering
Bequests of long lain souls

Moss grows on the stones
But only on the north-facing sides
The debaters finding solace
In the wracking surrendered noise

Truth is a homicidal maniac
Discretion, society’s lifeblood
She held her silence close
As her long-fated rest fell

Humanity’s Creation

Travails fuel the fire
Passions cool the soul
Sensations fill the moment
Humanity’s flowing role

To live in the puzzles of time
Pieces scattered on a hardwood floor
Existing in pains and wonder
Searching for the stained-glass door

Images flow from agreements
Thoughts from agreements made one
Society’s actualized truths
Humanity won’t be undone

The comfort of newfallen snow
The chilling white sleepers within
Calmed in the colors of silence
Escaping humanity’s din

The ease of inventing existence
Humanity’s thoughts fuel the ire
Destroying the void of the heavens
Through joys, panes, tomorrows, and fire

Collectively walking the walk
From darkness to darkness fulfilled
The snowy white drifts of this life
Humanity’s walk toward the nil

Falling Memories

Memories fallen
From the void where they lived
Colors of starshine
The great wide dark sieve

Ideas from the vortex
Rock me to sleep
With nary a twinkling
With nary a peep

Moments forgotten
Before they were lived
From long lost survivors
Of the great wide dark sieve

As sleep overtakes me
I’m lost in the deep
Forgotten dark memories
Take time to repeat

Memories fallen
The void closing in
Finding the solace
Escaping the din

Ascension of the Spawn

Looking up
He saw the man staring down at him
The resemblance was uncanny
His mood changed at once
From confusion to fright
From dimness to darkest night
Lost in the moment
Frozen in this sight

He stilled his breath
He gulped for life
An instant’s choice
The fate of life

Looking down
He saw the man staring up at him
He laughed in that particularly evil way
The reaper had taught him so long ago
The paralyzed man was seeking
Was struggling for the comfort of a breath
Denying the impossible truth
That he was so near death

He laughed again
In spite of the view
That held him caught
In perspective new

Looking up
He begged for another chance
Why is the messenger upon me?
Is this the final dance?

The reaper bared his sickle
Time could wait no more
He readied for the final cut
Prepared for this next chore

An instant of indecision
Stopped his hand in flight
Remembering the moment
Caught in a flicker of light

He handed the blade to the other
And the other wasted no time
Sliced into the messenger
And leapt into sublime

Forever destiny held
The reaper’s son lives on
First kill was his maker
Ascension of the spawn
